My life has revolved around dog training, competition and teaching others to train their dogs. I have been training dogs for nearly 50 years and have used positive reinforcement methods (clicker training) since first learning about it in 1999. I am constantly expanding my knowledge and use of ‘It’s your choice’ and Error-less learning methods and I have helped many hundreds of people train their dogs for a variety of dog sports as well as problem solving and behavior modification.
In August of 2014, I was approved as a Barn Hunt Judge and Judged many trials including a National event. And I was approved as an AKC Scentwork Judge with the first group of applicants just before AKC Scentwork started. In 2019, I stepped down as a Barn Hunt Judge because I could no longer stand for 10 hours straight without pain. But I recently got hired by Train A Dog Save A Warrior (TASDAW) as a trainer to help Veterans and First Responders get Service Dogs at no cost to them. I work with the Veteran/First Responder once a week to help them learn to train their own Service Dog. It’s been very rewarding work!
In the past, I have owned a Border Collie/Husky mix, a Rottweiler, 2 Cattle Dogs and 2 Beagles (& cats and horses) all of which lived long and full lives, learning new skills their entire lives. To learn more about them, visit: At-The-Bridge.com
My Belgian Malinois, from strong working lines, born in July of 2008, will be 17 yrs old on July 31st, 2025. I trained him to “do it all” and he has multiple titles in several different venues. He has also learned a wide assortment of skills from Sign Language to basic Search and Rescue to Carting and Herding! You can see all his titles and scores here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/dazzle/dazzles-titlesbadges/667597729963390
My Labrador, from Eromit Labradors in Canada, was born March 25, 2016 and has a LOT of skills! We didn't do as much trialing as I did with Dazzle, but the photo shows what he earned in his first 18 months of shows. And I still trained him as though we were going to trial in several sports.
My past experience includes several years as a police officer in Cincinnati, Ohio, a few years working at a couple dog day cares that taught me a LOT about reading dog body language and several years as Administrative Assistant and then President of a national, non-profit, pet dog training organization.
I was the founder, trainer and chief rat wrangler at the S.E. Indiana Rats and Dogs Club where I taught dogs and people the sport of Barn Hunt and Scent work almost every day at my house and still have students tell me they want me to come back to Ohio!
I moved to South Carolina in 2022 and turned an abandoned 4 acre property into a mini farm and Canine Confidence Course.
In addition to the TADSAW work and Judging assignments, I currently volunteer to handle adding events and classes to the Greater Columbia Obedience Club's website and I’m on the Obedience Training committee and Scentwork committee. But other than that, I spend my days tending to my mini farm and all the critters.
